We have lost count of the times you have asked us “How to get to Burano from Venice?”And we understand that information about transport in Venice can lead to confusion. So we decided to prepare a simple post with the options to get to the most colorful island of the veneta lagoon, without losing you there.

Do you want to know other islands? Here we tell you the most beautiful islands of Venice.

If you want more information of Venice, visit our GUIDE TO A TRIP TO VENICE

Unless you don't have a private boat or have managed to corrupt a gondolier, there are only two ways to get to Burano from Venice:

  • A. In vaporetto
  • B. On tour

I swear, I am Italian and I had a hard time understanding how to move around Venice, until I found this website where you can calculate the itinerary from one point to another, with public transport options, combinations, schedules, etc (come on, it's like the google maps of the vaporetti). It is pure gold!

If for example you want visit Burano from Santa Lucia Station (where the trains arrive) or nearby Piazzale Roma, there is no direct way and you will have to make a change (either line 3 to Murano and change to line 12, or take line 5.2 to Fondamente Nove and then line 12, but check the best itinerary on the web according to your schedule ).

If you you find in the north of Venice, it is best to go to the pier of Fondamenta Nuove, from where take line 12 that is direct to Burano. The journey from Fondamenta Nuove to Burano takes about 45 minutes (you can see the schedules here).

For those who leave from the immediate vicinity of Plaza San Marcos, walk to the pier of S. Zaccaria and take vaporetto 14, which is also direct to Burano.

How much does the vaporetto cost? The single ticket, valid for 75 minutes, costs € 7.50. If you plan to move a lot we recommend you get a 24-hour ticket (€ 20) or 48h (€ 30). You can buy the bonuses here (one, two, three and even seven days). Time counts from its first validation (not per calendar day).

With the daily transport tickets you can visit other places such as Murano and Torcello, two islands that are on the same vaporetto line. Especially in Murano, famous for its glass, we find it very interesting.

Do you stress just thinking about looking at schedules, reaching the starting point, understanding how the vaporetto works and not knowing how or when to return from Burano? Maybe the tour option may interest you…

For example, this includes transportation, guided tour (in Spanish) to visit Murano and Burano, with a visit to a glass factory and a lace workshop.

If what you want is to know Burano and have all the time available, we definitely recommend you to go for free in vaporetto (it seems a bit messy, but believe us, it is not complicated at all!). On the other hand, if you do not have much time but you want to make the most of it and in the process of knowing more islands (the truth is that they are very worthwhile, especially Murano for the crystals), we see an excellent option to make the guided tour. Also with a tour you forget everything and just enjoy.

Hopefully this information from how to get to Burano from Venice it works for you. Choose the option you choose we are sure that Burano will love it 🙂
