In a country where 99% is water, the king of gastronomy can only be him: fish, especially tuna. The Holy Trinity of the Maldivian cuisine is undoubtedly formed by fish, coconut and rice, all seasoned and seasoned with superior quality spices. The truth is that we, with our budget backpacker have not been able to stick to many luxuries and as we had kitchen in the house we have taken the opportunity to cook ourselves ... the daily menu has been pasta: carbonara, tuna, with sausages hehe ... very little exotic the truth !
Luckily we were able to get a little closer to the local gastronomy trying the most famous snacks of this land:
- GULHA: fried fish meatballs, coconut, onion and spices seasoned with lime and chili.
- BAJIYA: samosita with fish, coconut and onions.
- KULHI BORKINAA: Spiced fish tarts.
- THELULI KAVABUU: spicy fried fish croquettes.
Best of all, they only cost 1-2 Rufias (5-10 cent)
We also went to dinner at two restaurants on the seafront where we tried noodles and fried rice for about 35-40 RUFYAS (1.5-2 €)
This fried fish cost us € 1 and tasted like glory after a sunset bath
Ah ... If you are a beer, you know that there is no alcohol: it is only found in the resort (and we assume) at the price of gold.
