Amsterdam has many sites of interest, it is a very complete city that attracts many types of travelers. Here we tell you what it is the best of Amsterdam, our top 10.

When I told my parents that to celebrate the end of the exams I was going on vacation with a friend, the two made a face of "well, if you pay it for you, we think it is very good." When I revealed that the chosen destination was Amsterdam they put on the face of "our daughter is a drug addict."

Nothing helped explain that Amsterdam is the Venice of the north "if you like Venice go to Venice." Or that there is a wonderful Van Gogh museum "if you like museums go to the Louvre". Or that it is a city tailored to the bike "you have the bike parked in the garage since you were 8 years old." Or that there is a super nice beach "there is no beach go go". Ok, you got me!

But if you are among those who think, as my parents thought, that in Amsterdam there is little more apart from coffeshops and joints ... you are sooo wrong! Here goes what for us is the best of Amsterdam, our top 10.

Amsterdam offers a wide cultural range: there are more than 50 museums and endless exhibitions and art galleries. The most famous museums in Amsterdam are:

- The Rijksmuseum which brings together the most important collection of Dutch art in the world (with the best works by Rembrandt and Johannes Vermeer).

- The Van Gogh Museum, where you can admire more than 200 works of the painter, it is the most visited museum in the country. We loved it!

- The Rembrandt Museum Located in the house where the same painter resided, it is very interesting since it is like a trip to the Golden Age through his paintings and drawings.

- If yours is modern and contemporary art, Stedelijk Museum It will be your favorite place.

- The Van Loon Museum It is perfect if you want to know how the inhabitants of the city lived in the 19th century.

- The NEMO (Science Museum) is fantastic if you travel with children: it is an interactive museum that aims to bring the most curious physical phenomena to the little ones.

With the I amsterdam city card tourist card You have included the entrance to all these museums and many more! In addition to a boat trip on the canals and transport around the city. More info.

How many “Venecias” are there in the world? I will have heard this expression for at least 10 cities, and no, there is none like Venice. But the canals of Amsterdam are mogollón. The best way to visit them is undoubtedly with a boat ride, which are also not expensive (this costs € 12.50).

There is also a free ferry behind the central station. It is called “Buikersloterwegveer” and leaves from platform # 7. It only lasts about 5 minutes, but anyway, everything that is free is good, right?

And of course, if you can not miss a walk through the canals at night, with hundreds of bridges lit, they are really beautiful!

If what you want is to have Amsterdam at your feet, it is best to climb the tower of the Westerkerk church, which with its 85 meters offers the best view of the city. Other interesting views are from the NEMO museum terrace or from the Amsterdam Public Library terrace, very close to the NEMO.

And of course, if you want to take the typical Amsterdam snapshot, go to the poster of I amsterdam, which is located in front of the Rijksmuseum. Just forget to take a picture of yourself (unless you come at 6 in the morning!)

In this house, now a museum, Anna Frank wrote her touching daily. It is an essential place to learn about the history of one of the many families that hid to try to escape the Nazi persecution. (Ticket price: € 10).

Actually the building where the little one really hid is next to the museum. There is a plaque at the entrance to the portal.

It is, without any doubt, one of the icons of the city: whether you want to or not, you will end up walking through its alleys and you will pass by the famous shop windows full of neons and girls. The good thing about the neighborhood is that it has many small and local places where you can have a drink instead with a lot of atmosphere. And why not? Enter a store and do a piercing like me, you can not imagine how happy my mother was on my return!

Is he heart of amsterdam, here are the Royal Palace, the Nieuwe Kerk church, the national monument and countless street artists.

Sooner or later you will pass by, so do not miss the opportunity to contemplate this square, one of the most beautiful in Europe.

Even if you do not smoke or go too much mycology, it is a experience of entering a coffeeshop. There are many and each one different from the other, from Rastafarian caves to Irish pub-style decorations or chic places with oriental touches, but they all offer the same thing: energy drinks, juices, hashish and marijuana ... and for the more vague directly ready poles. The most famous are: Baba, Popeye's, Bulldog, The Grasshopper, Abraxas, Barney's ...

If you want to try the famous mushrooms your site is the smartshops, and with famous mushrooms I do not mean rich mushrooms to make rice or pasta, if not the hallucinogens. I prefer a good "risotto with porcini" but anyway, for tastes ...

In Amsterdam the green areas are not lacking: no doubt the best park is the Voldenpark where you can relax among many species of plants and people almost always more exotic and curious than trees! Interesting also the Hortus Botanicus: one of the oldest botanical gardens in Europe!

There are plenty of occasions to have fun, whether in bars or in famous clubs and clubs, Amsterdam is a lively city! The best areas to go out for drinks are Rembrandtplein, Splui Y Leidseplein. If you then want to go dancing, one of the best clubs is the Paradiso: decorated like a church with very good light and sound effects.

If you are a brewer you can not miss the Heinejen Experience, an interactive exhibition dedicated to the history and manufacturing process of the famous Heineken beer. In addition there is beer included with the entrance! Combine the visit with a boat tour.

It is worth going to Amsterdam just to stroll among its wonderful markets: my favorite is that of flowers (Bloemenmarkt). It is located on the Singel canal, between Koningsplein and Muntplein and is made up of stalls selling the famous tulip bulbs, as well as other plants and flowers.

But if you are more of clothes than flowers, these are the places that will make you fall in love: Waterlooplein, a market of everything a little, with military clothes, crafts, curiosities and atmosphere of the '70s. Noordermarkt and Westerstraat, with footwear, new and second-hand clothes and some other antiquity. And if you are looking for modern and fashion clothes do not miss the Kalverstraat and the famous “9 streets”.

The truth is that Amsterdam was a surprise: the shape of its houses, the thousands of canals, the churches, the chic-bohemian shops, the young atmosphere and the constant movement of its streets have really pleased me. Surely they will surprise you too.

Have you visited this Dutch city? Have we forgotten anything to get on the list of the best of Amsterdam?
