Day 1: BARCELONA - BERLIN

Thursday, January 05, 2012

Today we can say that the year has begun for us. Not the normal year, if not the traveling year !! And the truth is that it was time, we were looking forward to this day. Today at 8 pm we have a flight Barcelona Berlin.
Last year, by this time we made a trip to Tuscany and hopefully this becomes commonplace 🙂
As the alarm sounds every day, we get up, we go to work ... we eat and (this is not usual) we take the car to go to the airport of Barcelona for our flight from Barcelona to Berlin.
Our flight leaves at eight in the afternoon, so shortly before six o'clock we already have the car parked in AparcaiVola and they transfer us to Terminal 2 of the Prat.
This time we flew with Easy Jet, it will be our first time with them, to see how they are ... that these low-cost companies do not normally inspire us much confidence, although we always continue flying with them.

After going around the airport a little lost, we discovered that they have “the headquarters” in the old terminal of Puente Aéreo.
We see that everything is correct on the screens that announce the flights, so we take the opportunity to make a snack-dinner and re-prepare a little what we have left of the itinerary.
Without realizing, as always in these cases, time flies and we will pass the security arches.
In Easy Jet they only put restrictions on the measurements for the handbag, but you can carry the weight you want, as long as you can upload it to the compartment of the plane without help.
As we still do not know what will happen to us ... at this moment we are still smiling excited for the first getaway of the year !!

After an hour and a little of the flight from Barcelona to Berlin, announce turbulence ... and to tell more ... has been the worst flight of our lives.
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. There has been a moment when the plane has come down suddenly and shouts have been heard even from the crew that had already taken their seats.
Why we like to travel too much, that if I don't believe that after this we don't catch a plane again !!
After those minutes, the flight seems to calm down and in 2 hours and twenty we arrive in Berlin.
Upon leaving we take a Berlin city map and another of the subway lines at the information booth and we go to the newsstand (left on the left) where we buy two train tickets for line S9 (3 '- euros per person), which will take us to one stop from berlin airport to near the hotel.
Being more than 11 at night, we have to take this train, since the other train line ends its journeys at that time.
It did not take long to catch it and we made a transfer at Ostbahnhof and then go to the S5 line and arrive at the Jannowitz-brücke station, where we got off thinking at that time that it was the closest to the hotel. After a moment, we check that we still have about 5 minutes walking to the Park Plaza Wallstreet Berlin Mitte, which will be ours Berlin hotel.
Another more comfortable option to reach the hotel is by booking a transfer from the airport directly to our hotel here.
You can find more information about the transfer in this post about how to go from the Berlin airport to the center.
We look at the clock and it is a little less than 1 in the morning, we have already checked in at the Park Plaza Wallstreet Berlin and we are about to climb to rest.
We have not noticed too cold, the truth is that we expected much more, perhaps they are the nerves of the moment, the stress of the transfer, but we did not notice it. Now what "worries" us most is to rest, that tomorrow we have a day full of things we want to do.
After arriving at the room and placing things a little, we fall surrendered ... we hardly have time to review tomorrow's planning. We just set the alarm. It's 2 a.m!!
But we are already in Berlin!!
