Day 2: VALL DE BOÍ (Aigüestortes Park)

Friday, July 24, 2009

We get up early, because today we have the view of Aigüestortes Park. In the Rantiner we have breakfast very well with products of the land and we take strength to face today.
Before starting the tour, we go to a supermarket in Taüll to buy food since today we will eat inside the Aigüestortes Park. We take the car and move to Boí where they take the SUVs that take you to the National Park of AigüesTortes. If you have time you can park your car in a parking lot near the park and walk up, although we anticipate that there is a good walk and slope.

Once you inform us of the time of collection of the SUV, we take advantage of the time left to go see the church of Sant Joan de Boí which preserves a Romanesque bell tower from which Erill-la-Vall and the rest of the valley can be seen.

Sant Joan de Boí Church

The Aigüestortes Park It is the only National Park in Catalonia. It can be divided into two zones and this time we will visit the internal zone that is located in the municipalities of the Boí and Espot Valley. In this area, the meanders that give name to the park that form between the Llong, Llebreta lakes and the San Nicolás river stand out. The other area is the Lake of Sant Maurici, an area that we will discover on the Aigüestortes National Park getaway.

Aigüestortes Park

The landscape is high mountain with an impressive relief and a great wealth of fauna and vegetation.

Aigüestortes Park

Valleys surrounded by tops of more than 3,000 meters high. Water, with almost 200 lakes and countless streams, is the protagonist.

Aigüestortes

You can do various routes through the park, we start near the Vall of the Sant Nicolau River, where there is an information point where they provide you with a map, in the Planell de Aigüestortes, where there are some wooden walkways that pass over the river and the meanders that form, hence the name of aigües tortes (twisted waters) , and we walked up admiring the Estany de la Llebreta, a magnificent forest and the spectacular waterfall of Sant Esperit.

We arrive at Llong Lake And this is where we take the opportunity to make an impromptu picnic and recharge. It takes about two hours to arrive and in the middle of the route we find a shelter with services and shop. You can continue until you climb a mountain and see the Estany de Sant Maurici, but we take it easy and after lunch we calmly go down to the collection area.

Llong Lake

In the afternoon we visit the town of Taüll and its other Romanesque church, Santa Maria de Taüll, which is in the upper part of the population and that are being restored at the moment.
