Day 10: Guanajuato - Tourist places of Zacatecas

Although getting up early is what we usually do on our trips and we were not going to skip this trip to Mexico in 45 days, today we have done it a little more than usual and it is that in a few hours an itinerary awaits us tourist places of Zacatecas, the third city we will visit on this trip.
The ETN bus leaves at 7 in the morning from the central station of Zacatecas, about 6 kilometers from the historic center of Guanajuato, so we are afraid to leave the Hotel Casa Pita, our hotel in Guanajuato these days, about 6:15 in the morning to arrive on time.
Yesterday we asked at the hotel if there were taxis at that time in the street and they told us that being very soon they usually do not exist, so in order not to risk we have asked us to wait for one in the Main Theater at 6:15 that for 60 pesos Take us to the station. In the end they are only 10 pesos more than the route they charged us when we arrived from San Miguel de Allende to Guanajuato and so we can be calm for this first journey of the day.
And so, after a quick coffee in a cafe near the hotel, since breakfast starts later, we take our taxi to the doors of the Main Theater when it is still night to get to the Central Station when it is 6:30 a.m. the morning, where we take advantage of these minutes to review the itinerary we have planned for today and that includes some of the tourist places of Zacatecas.
Punctual, at 7, we take our ETN bus to León, where we will make a bus change, to at 9 take another bus that will take us to Zacatecas, where we will arrive at 1 noon, whenever traffic allows us.

How to get from Guanajuato to Zacatecas

There are several companies that we can call safe for go from Guanajuato to ZacatecasAfter our experience, we recommend ETN, Ómnibus or Primera Plus.
In our case, the decision only went through a schedule issue, choosing ETN, which was the only one that allowed us to arrive at Zacatecas at noon, in order to have a day and a half in the city, as we have had so far in San Miguel Allende as in Guanajuato.
As for the rest of the trips we bought the tickets through the internet, although what initially puzzled us is that if we bought the ticket making a multi-destination, with Guanajuato origin and Zacatecas destination, the earliest departure time was at 8 in the morning and the arrival in Zacatecas at 6pm, making a 5-hour stopover in León.
On the contrary, if we bought the tickets separately, that is, making two routes, Guanajuato-León and León-Zacatecas, the system allowed us to take the first bus at 7 in the morning, arriving at León at 8 and being able to link perfectly with the second at 9 in the morning, so we arrived in Zacatecas at 1 noon, thus earning 5 hours to visit some of the tourist places of Zacatecas.
As we did not understand the reason for not appearing this option on their website, we called by phone and they told us that although they did not know the reason why this option could not be chosen on their website, it was totally correct and viable to buy the tickets separately and We could do this combination.
This is why we recommend you look at this type of options if the schedules do not fit you, since sometimes, buying tickets separately on journeys with a stopover is much more beneficial than not opting directly for the multi-destination.

After a journey of 1 hour, we arrive punctually at 8 to León, taking advantage of these minutes of stopover to have a well-loaded coffee and when it is 9 and after check in Luggage at the ETN counter, return to the road, now on the way to Zacatecas.
We take 5 hours of the trip to read, review the itinerary of this trip to Mexico for free, especially visits to the tourist places of Zacatecas and enjoy the landscape that surrounds us, something we usually do when we go by car or bus and that allows us to enjoy the places as if we were inside a movie.

As an anecdote we will say that halfway from León to Zacatecas we are being taken by the military police, who are in some trucks, to get us down with our luggage, both hand and luggage to pass them through some scanners they have in the truck, something that makes us virtually delay the journey about 30 minutes.
So with this delay, we arrived in Zacatecas when it is 1:30 noon, our new destination.
As we arrived a little later and we do not know how UBER will work for the issue of conflicts with taxi drivers, we decided to take a taxi directly for 60 pesos, to go to what will be our accommodation in Zacatecas the next 2 nights, Hotel Casa Towers.

We have to confess that in the short taxi ride we make from the station to the historic center of Zacatecas, where we will stay, what we are seeing through the window is not particularly attractive, so we begin to consider whether to get here not will have been a error, something that we already anticipated, we were completely wrong and that we would discover especially, the next day, when we really discovered most of tourist places of Zacatecas.

We check-in and after resting 20 minutes and enjoying incredible views of the city from the terrace of our room, we decided that it is time to go back to the streets of Zacatecas to find a place to eat and turn off the voices of our stomach.

It's 2:30 in the afternoon, when after looking at our faithful TripAdvisor, we go straight to the Lucky Luciano restaurant, the first in the city, where we order a fried cheese, some enchiladas with mole and some with red chili, more sodas , beer and coffees for 650 pesos, which we have to say, is exquisite !, in addition to having a place and a very special owner. Definitely highly recommended.

It is practically 4 in the afternoon when we leave the premises and we decide that it is already the time it is and without practically time to visit some of the tourist places of Zacatecas, something that we will leave for tomorrow, we will spend these few hours that we have until nightfall, enjoying wandering through the streets of the historic center, waiting for that first impression we had when we came in the taxi to change.

Something that catches our attention these first hours in Zacatecas is the impression that we have at first sight and that evokes more to a small town, not a big city, in which there is practically no tourism. Something that we also continue checking the next day, not crossing absolutely with any tourist or in the endless walks we take in its streets or in any of the tourist places of Zacatecas.

That is why this afternoon we decided to enjoy the walk through the historic center, without making many visits, dedicating ourselves solely to enjoying the atmosphere and watch life go by, that we like so much and what we enjoy so much when we travel.

It's 8 in the afternoon when we approach the Acropolis restaurant, in the historic center and very close to our hotel, where we ask for a tenderloin cake, cheese and chorizo quesadillas plus water and soda for 300 pesos.

And so, after dinner, on a quiet day in Zacatecas, we return to the Hotel Casa Torres, from where we say goodbye to the city with a beautiful image of the illuminated historic center.
