1. Nikko

Nikko, declared a World Heritage Site for its temples and shrines, is one of the Tokyo excursions most common for those who visit the city.
Upon arrival, the Shinkyo Bridge, one of the most beautiful bridges in Japan, will welcome you to the most interesting places in Nikko, located in a mountainous area surrounded by nature. After seeing the bridge you can approach the Toshogu Shrine, the most important in Nikko, located half an hour walk from the station or 10 minutes by bus, although whenever you can, we recommend you do it on foot, as it is one of the best introductions To this amazing place in Japan.
This sanctuary, declared national treasure of the country and known as the sanctuary of the 3 wise monkeys, will leave you speechless, both for the artistic details of all its buildings and for the atmosphere of peace and tranquility that is breathed.

To get to Nikko from Tokyo you can take the Tohoku Shinkansen from Tokyo or Ueno station in the direction of Utsonomiya (included in the JR Pass), which has a journey time of less than one hour.
At Utsunomiya station, you will have to change to get on the Nikko Line, which will take you directly to Nikko on an old train in approximately 45 minutes.

2. Guided tour of Tokyo

There are many things to do in Tokyo, a city that never sleeps and where, as we said at the beginning, you can see the incredible contrast between its most modern and traditional places.
The best way to get to its amazing neighborhoods like Akihabara, Ginza, Shibuya, Asakusa or Shinjuku, is with its huge subway network, where you will feel like traveling through a large underground city.
In Tokyo, in addition to touring all these neighborhoods on foot, you cannot stop walking through Ueno or Yoyogi Park, reach Odaiba on a cruise, visit temples such as Meiji Jingu or Sensoji, or climb some of its best viewpoints such as Metropolitan Government building or the Mori Tower.

3. Kamakura and Yokohama, one of the best excursions in Tokyo

Visiting Kamakura and Yokohoma in one day, is another of the best excursions in Tokyo.
Kamakura is a coastal city, known for its shrines and temples, among which the Kotokuin Temple stands out, with its large bronze statue of Daibutsu or Great Buddha.
On this visit, after knowing its most famous place, we recommend visiting other important places such as the Hase-dera temple full of jizo statues, the sanctuary of Kamakura-gu and the Tsurugaoka Hachiman, the tombs of Minamoto no Yoritomo and Hojo Masako, the Zen temples of Kenchō-ji and Engaku-ji or the Tōkei-ji convent, all incredibly recommended.
And as an extra recommendation, before leaving, do not forget to take a walk through the beautiful bamboo forest of the Hokokuji temple or approach its beaches to try your luck and see Mount Fuji in the distance, if the sky is clear.

Yokohama, the second largest city in Japan, is a stop you can make on the way back from Kamakura. It is worth visiting at night to concentrate on the areas of Chinatown and that of Minato Mirai 21, for us the most outstanding at this time of day.
The latter is a complex of futuristic buildings and attractions located in the port that will delight young and old.
You can end the visit to Yokohoma by going up to the Landmark Tower observatory to enjoy great views of the port and the city.

To get to Kamakura you can take the JR Yokosuka Line at the Tokyo station or the JR Shonan Shinjuku at the Shinjuku station. In both options, the journeys are less than one hour and are included in the JR Pass.
If you do not have the JR Pass you can take the Odakyu Enoshima-Kamakura Freepass pass, which will take you with the Odakyo line from Shinkuji station to Fujisawa. In this station you can take the beautiful Enoden train with which you will arrive to Kamukura. With this option, in total you will spend half an hour more time than with the JR Pass.
On the way back you can stop at Yokohoma with the JR Pass lines, or take a Limited Express from the Toyoko Line.

4. Tokyo geek tour

We could say that Tokyo is the city where our geek side will feel most comfortable.
Although there are many places where you can unleash this facet, the Akihabara neighborhood, full of technology stores where you can find everything from the oldest consoles and games to all kinds of futuristic items, is probably also one of the favorite areas for manga and anime lovers, one of the favorite hobbies of the Japanese.
Here you can also see the recreational rooms of all kinds, in which young people and adults spend hours of their time, being part of the landscape of this amazing neighborhood.

But besides Akihabara, one of the essential places to visit in Tokyo, there are many more places that you cannot miss if you are looking for that geek side. Some of them are Takeshita Dori Street and its surroundings, where you can see the phenomenon called "Cosplay", in which his followers disguise themselves as different comic characters or themes.
Other experiences unusual in Tokyo they are sleeping in a capsule hotel, singing in a karaoke disguised as a Pokemon or entering a photo booth "Purikura Cosplay", to take pictures with amazing filters.
A good way to discover all these places and not to be very embarrassed, in case you have it, is to book a guided tour in Spanish, where you will go with more travelers.

5. Mount Fuji

Mount Fuji is another one of the best excursions in Tokyo and one of the most essential places to see in Japan.
This photogenic sacred volcano, the highest peak in Japan, is one of the symbols and postcards of the country, which we recommend not to miss on your trip.
Although we could say that any time is good to try to see it, summer is a good time to take advantage of the good weather and the low seismic activity of the volcano, and even to climb to the top or make a hiking route around.
There are several recommended places to have a good view of the Fuji, such as the Five Lakes region, where the views from Lake Kawaguchiko and the Chureito Pagoda stand out.
Another of the most famous viewpoints are in the Hakone area, although its views are further away and perhaps less impressive.
Another option is the Fukurayoshida Arakurayama Sengen park or from the right side of the same Shinkansen bullet train, which also offer good views of Mount Fuji.
Although before we commented that a good time was summer, by the time, the best time to see it is in winter by offering the clearest skies, although in spring and autumn, with a little luck you can also enjoy it without any cloud or fog that cover.
To get to the area of Lake Kawaguchiko, the best for us, you will have to take the JR Chuo line (included in the JR Pass) that will take you to Otsuki station at Shinjuku station. From this station departs the Fujikyu train (not included in the JR Pass) that will take you to Kawaguchiko station, before stopping at the Shimoyoshida station that allows you to access the Chureito Pagoda. At Kawaguchiko station you can rent a bike or take a bus to tour the lake with its magnificent Fuji viewpoints.
